Generation Series

The unique sculptures from the Generation Series have an interesting background. The prototype was a study from the model in clay which was 31" high. However, as things go, the clay did not survive the stress of the kiln firing. After literally "picking up the pieces", I glued them back together, filled in the missing areas and made a mold of the figure. The loss of the original study challenged me to think beyond the beginning and approach the figure in a new way. Because I wanted to experiment with a new approach to creating a wax prototype for bronze, I decided to create a series of no more than ten original sculptures from this mold.

Each sculpture of the Generation Series is the result of playing with the form by pressing varying textures of wax into the mold and altering its original composition. Although the mold serves as a prototype of the original form each sculpture produced from it is unique and one of a kind. The first from this series was called Generation 3 (reserving a later casting of The Patriarch and Second Generation).
