She Waits

In the fall of 2007 I had the opportunity to teach a sculpture class in Modeling and Carving at Lake Tahoe Community College. As a demonstration in modeling a maquette for stone sculpture I created this little stylized figure from oil based clay. Later, while teaching Molding and Casting, I used the little model to demonstrate mold making. Finally, the first wax cast from the mold was cast in our Bronze Casting class that spring.

To complete the circle, the last is still to come. Remember, she originated as a maquette for stone sculpture. I intend to carve her from stone one day and so I call her "She waits..." as she poses and waits for the perfect stone to come along.
