Stone
The gentle beauty of my stone sculptures reveals the euphoria I experience while carving stone. The stone’s own soft beauty and tactile rigidity demands that I take my time, respecting its integrity, carefully carving away only what is necessary to reveal its hidden secrets.
I usually begin with a preconceived idea of what I believe the stone holds within and work from a maquette. At some point during the carving process the figure begins to show itself. This is an exhilarating and exciting time. This is when I am able to put the model away, relax, and allow the stone to direct my hands and allow the figure to unfold.
