Do you believe in Angels?
Bronze on marble base, Ed. 50, 10" high x 3"round
I developed this little figure in oil clay as a maquette for a future stone carving. Then bronze casting distracted me and idea of stone was put on the shelf along with the model. In 2003 I experienced the loss of a best friend and in my grief left me uninspired and unable to create.
In the Spring of 2004 I had the opportunity to study marble carving in PietraSanta Italy with Kyle Smith, art space: ValdiCastello, and I packed the original clay maquette in my suitcase and it accompanied me to Italy and I used it to carve my Carrara marble block. My marble sculpture was far from finished when I had it, along with the we'll-weathered little maquette, shipped home and I completed the marble in my home studio. I named the marble "I believe in Angels" and it lives with me in my home. Its concept is a personal one for me symbolic of the angels who guide us along our journey.
Once home I cleaned up the little model and made a mold for future small bronze sculptures. I call this small sculpture, "Do you believe in Angels". I do.
